    Girls Golf Empty Girls Golf

Post  reginaliu Sun Nov 08, 2009 12:07 pm

Students are sighing in relief at the end of the quarter and all the stresses that go with it, such as quarter finals and grades, but some good things are coming to an end as well. The Varsity Girls Golf Team has reason to feel different emotions than relief as the end of the girl’s golf season closely follows the end of the quarter. After the outstanding performances from each of the members this season, it’s a shame it ever has to end.
All six of the girls on the team managed to make the top 12 in league finals, resulting in a record of 24-1. Three of the girls finished in the top five overall and therefore qualified for the CIF individuals at Soule Park. Junior Mya Maw finished in second place; Sophomore Katherine Guo finished in fourth; and Junior Chi Chi Min finished in fifth. In addition, Mya Maw qualified for CIF Individual Finals after competing against 96 of the top golfers in the Southern Section on Nov. 3.
The girls’ individual performances are perhaps matched only by their performance as a team. The team became the Pacific League Champions for the second year in a row. They also earned the CIF Central Division Championship, which Coach Robert Greep describes as his proudest moment in the season and “an early birthday present.” In this accomplishment, they defeated two of the best teams in the Southern Section, Cerritos and Great Oak. Their victory does not come as a huge surprise considering their overall record was an incredible 29-1.
Despite the end of the season, the girls can’t relax yet. Coach Greep said, “The girls will be required to keep working during the off season. Those girls who do not participate in tournaments and practice it will be very difficult for them to remain on the team next year.”
It’s true that not all girls will be able to return next year. Seniors Lily Tin and Jacqueline Huang will be graduating and therefore unable to continue being a part of the Arcadia Golf Team.
“I’m very proud of both girls and all they accomplished while part of the girls golf program,” Coach Greep stated.
With results like these of this past season, Lily and Jacqueline have no reason to fear for the fate of the team they’ll be leaving behind.

As the quarter ended, alleviating all the stress that came with it, such as quarter finals and grades, students sighed in relief. However, some good things came to an end as well.
