    10 Finals Words (shadow)

Post  sallychung on Fri Jan 08, 2010 11:55 am

AHS students study thousands of SAT vocabulary words, and failing is just not part of their vocabulary. Although they are really prepared, they can't explain the drastic paranoia they feel during Finals Week. They can define what clairvoyant or vindictant means, but they can't define what happends to them during this week. Now, there are finally the words to explain what happens to them. All they need to do now is study and conquer them to conquer their Finals paranoia.

APocollaps – Arcadia ’s very own apocalypse when Finals week drives AP students mad with worry. Afterschool hangouts are deserted and abandoned; students lock themselves in at home to study, on the verge of collapsing from exhaustion. Consequently, APocollaps is the widespread destruction of teenagers’ happiness.
Eg: Forget about the Apocalypse prediction of 2012, we’ve got the APocollaps to worry about!”

statusfrenzia - the widespread disease caused by APocollaps; symptoms include 1. the updating of Facebook and Twitter statuses every two minutes to complain about Finals
Eg: I allowed my statusfrenzia to consume me as I updated, "APUSH sucks, My life sucks" on Facebook.

crampage - an act of procrastination in which a reader skims pages last minute to cram as much information into their brain as s/he can
Eg: After discovering that my biology test was tomorrow (thanks to my friend's Facebook status), I went on a crampage before falling asleep on my Biology book.

iFail - the contagious idea corrupting students' minds that causes students to think they will fail the finals, when really most actually do well
Eg: All of my AIM buddies had iFail statuses that the feeling of iFail started to take over me as well.

PMS - an acronym for Paranoia of Multiple Choice Syndrome; the anxiety that rises when students bubble in the same letter on the scantron for three questions or more consecutively; PMS causes students to hesitate before continuing so they lose more time on their test.
Eg: James had PMS when all of his answers were False to the True or False section of the test.

Studleech - a lazy student that transforms during the APocollaps in order for them to pass any Final; a classmate that acts as a Nephelopsis obscura (in simpler terms, for those of you who aren't AP Bio nerds, a leech). They cling to you and constantly bug you on AIM and Facebook. They feed off of you for homework answers, class notes, and essay ideas.
Eg: I tried to shake the studleech off by ignoring his comments on Facebook, but he finally leeched the answers off of me by stealing my homework from my backpack.

Frenemy - This popular lingo is common at AHS during APocollaps when every student feels jealous of their friends and their success (it just reminds them of how badly their doing); a frenemy connovingly pleases others through compliments to learn their studying secrets
Eg: I knew my friend was actually a frenemy when she replied rudely when I told her my grade.

Sugar-high-and-deprived - When cramming for Finals calls for all-nighters, students binge on sugary sweets to keep from falling asleep. Keep away from suger-high-and-deprived students because although they might act lighthearted and giddy, their intake of sugar hides that they are actually light-headed and queasy.
Eg: Poor sugar-high-and-deprived Sammy was laughing hysterically on the brink of tears for no apparent reason.

slurush - a moment when a student's brain remembers a lot of random information at once (a brain rush), but cannot remember a specific fact (a brain fart)
Eg: I had to answer one more question, and while I knew most of this chapter, I couldn't answer it due to my slurush.

cheatsy - mostly used to describe essays; unoriginal (most popular sites to refer to: Sparknotes, Wikipedia), and cheesy
Eg: Koryn did not even read Mists of Avalon so she decided to just write a cheatsy essay.
