The weight of the head plus the weight of the body equals the weight of the head with the body. Confused? “Not I!” Replies AHS’ Academic Decathlon, bring home the heads of their opponents at their competition on Jan. 30 and Feb. 6.
The Academic Decathlon consists of three teams (honors, scholastic, and varsity) who are “They’re willing to dedicate time and effort and enjoy learning for the sake of learning,” commented captain Alison Hsieh. The team meets biweekly after school in addition to weekly outside meets. [maybe advisor’s quote].
The competition on Jan. 30 took place at El Rancho High School and the competition on Feb. 6 took place at USC. This LA County Regional competition includes all the schools in the LA County school district (about 53 schools). This year’s theme is the French Revolution. The subjects of this theme include the literature at this time, art, chemistry, economics, and history. The first weekend of the competition (Jan.30) consisted of speeches, interviews, and essays; the second weekend (Feb. 6) includes a multiple-choice test portion as well as an oral question relay. The scores are tallied from the two top scoring individuals of each team (honors, scholastic, varsity). AHS’ Academic Decathlon place [what with what score]. Beat only by [if any with what]. [any individual awards]. “I would like to see the team go to state (even if I’m not in it) sometime in the near future and really prove that Arcadia is a school to beat.” Commented vice president Lynn Huang.
