Mentally Challenged Man Tricked Into Robbing Bank
Most people consider a bank robber to be gruff, buff, and masked, but a new type of bank robber was introduced. In Monrovia a man was convicted of an attempted bank robbery. When police arrived on the scene, they knew something was awry. The man look confused and out of place.
Further investigating revealed that the man was possibly mentally retarded. When police interrogated him, the man reveled that he was picked up by a woman and was promised a job if he delivered a note and a bag to a Citizens Bank. The initial note stated there was bombs on the facility and that they would not be set off if the teller filled the bag with the demanded money.
The employee immediately called the police; the staff and surrounding buildings were quickly evacuated. Three hours later the robber was stripped to his undergarments and taken out of the bank.
Police at the time were trying to determine if the man was truly mentally retarded and where the woman is, who she was, and if she even exists.
After this event, many are shocked by the event. People are wondering if bank robbers have sunken to the level of manipulating the mentally challenged, or if mentally challenged people are the next line of bank robbers.
The man later received a bail and is now awaiting a Supreme Court Trial in Pasadena.
