Biden's Visit to Israel Empty Biden's Visit to Israel

Vice President (VP) Joe Biden decided to take a visit to Israel to straighten out tensions and uneasiness between the US and countries located in the Middle Eastern areas. Vice President Biden initially went to Israel to smooth relationships with Israel, its longtime ally, and to discuss peace talks. However, things turned upside down for VP Biden when Israel brought up its plan for new housing in traditionally Arab East Jerusalem.
VP Biden had declared his love for the country of Israel and said that the US would fully back it up in any matter. However, the tenor of the seemingly pleasant visit drastically changed as Israel announced it would construct around 1,600 new apartments in East Jerusalem which was annexed by Israel after the 1967 Six-Day War between Israel and its neighboring states of Egypt, Jordan, and Syria.

"The substance and timing of the announcement, particularly with the launching of proximity talks, is precisely the kind of step that undermines the trust we need right now," VP Biden said. He said that the US needs to build an atmosphere of trust and support rather than further complicate events. The US and the United Nations (UN) wish for a peace or good relations between them and the states of the Middle East. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon also disliked the announcement of Israel's decision to develop East Jerusalem by saying they undermined "any movement towards a viable peace process."
Since the sudden announcement to develop settlements in East Jerusalem by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who had told VP Biden about Israel's plan, chilled relations between the Obama administration and Israel. VP Biden hopes to be able to reform their connections as he was the highest member of the Obama administration who visited Israel.

The US, the Palestinians, and the rest of the international committee of the UN believes that developing the formerly Palestinian land of East Jerusalem which was annexed by Israel will only help in further muddying the waters for talks about peace prospects between the states around Israel and the UN.
The Israeli government has been contrite about the matter since the announcement. US officials, however, accept Prime Minister Netanyahu's assertion that he had not known of the approval for building the 1,600 apartments in East Jerusalem ahead of time. VP Biden publicly praised Israel during his farewell speech on the Thursday he left. Israeli media said however, that he complained bitterly of the announcement when he spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu. The declaration made by Israel muddled peace attempts in the Middle East and made VP Biden's visit futile as situations merely became more complicated.

Since the sudden announcement to develop settlements in East Jerusalem by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who told Vice President Biden about Israel's plan, chilled relations between the Obama administration and Israel. East Jerusalem is Palestine's disputed holy land and the reason that the U.S. wishes for peace between most of the Middle Eastern nations is so that they can help convince Iran to stop attempting to acquire nuclear weapons. The main objective of the U.S. is to stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and the first stepping stone to achieving that goal is to ensure the peace between all of the states of the Middle East. Vice President Biden hopes to be able to reform their connections as he was the highest member of the Obama administration who visited Israel.
