PCC and Metro
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) and Pasadena City College (PCC) unite! Metro and PCC start a new program called the Institution Pass program (I-Pass), which allows certain PCC students to ride the Metro unlimitedly for just $30. Incoming PCC students from AHS and other schools will be glad to hear of this because their transportation fee just got smaller
The I-Pass program gives full-time PCC students enrolled in at least 12 units a chance to buy I-Pass stamps for $30, allowing them to ride the Metro buses and Rail lines everyday. The I-Pass is usable for any transportation need like work, shopping, school, or recreation. With this cheap deal for students, they can focus their money on schoolbooks, supplies, tuition, and even for having fun. Glendale City Council Member and Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation said, “It’s a fantastic bargain that every student should take advantage of in these difficult economic times.”
This program is to encourage public transportation to reduce the need for parking structures and to discourage driving your own car to school. To make sure the program succeeds, PCC will also provide shuttle services to the Metro Gold Line. Interim Vice President Richard P. Van Pelt said, “By encouraging students to use public transportation, we will help foster a more sustainable future, and change the paradigm of single-person vehicle use among a very large segment of our population.”
Hopefully, future PCC students from AHS will reap the benefits of this new program and successfully live a college experience with cheap transportation.
