Sidekicks are always underappreciated from movies to games to books, but shouldn’t they be just as important. They could at least get a spin-off story focusing on them, and if it’s just as successful as the original, then the company gets more money, where’s the negative in that? Here’s a list of five universally known sidekicks without their own main role:
1. Boots (Dora the Explorer)-
If you every seen an episode of Dora the Explorer, you most likely know who Boots is. Well, if you don’t remember, it’s the blue monkey that always follows Dora and does back flips. I think it’s only fair that if Dora’s cousin, Diego, gets his own show, so does Boots. If you don’t already know this, Nickelodeon recently remade Dora into a “tween” and made her move to the big city, so what happens to boots? Unless he gets sent to an animal shelter, I think it would be a good idea for Nickelodeon to give him his own spin-off instead of ignoring him.
2. Misty, May, Dawn (Pokémon)–
Throughout the 13 years of Pokémon, the writers have written out many people, but they always seem to replace the same role after two or three seasons. It always seems to be the female character of the main trio. So far Misty left to lead her water gym, who ever knows happened to May, and Dawn is getting closer to her end on the show. But, I still don’t get how a ten-year old child is able to get three girls in a year, but that’s not the point, the point is that their should be a show centered on Misty, May, and/or Dawn.
4. Tails (Sonic)-
Even if you played Sonic, you most likely won’t remember Tails, the orange fox with two tails. That’s because he doesn’t show up in a lot of the games. He appeared in many of the early games, as Sonic’s eight-year old sidekick, but he left Sonic for four years. Why doesn’t Sega just make a game about his life between when he left and when he reappeared back in 1999?
5. Toads (Mario)-
Technically, their not sidekicks, but in a world where Princess Peach and Wario get their own games, so should these little toad people. The only purpose they serve in games is telling Mario that Princess Peach is in another castle. Even if they don’t get their own platform game, they could at least get a mini-cooking game. Just imagine, you’re playing a game on your DS, and there’s a frying pan on the bottom screen and a toad person on the top screen holding the pan, then you were able to drag ingredients into the pan.
