Will find more info and post
After long hours of practice, numerous shows and competitions, and unyielding dedication and perseverance, they finally made it here. They now take the stage, standing side to side with the elite. They came for only one thing: to compete with top groups from around the world, showing the world their extreme pride towards their performing arts. This year's 2010 Winter Guard International competition (WGI) in Dayton, Ohio drew over 11,000 participants from all over the world. Our very own World Guard and Varsity Percussion (VPR) were part of that crowd of performers, proudly representing the Colorguard and Percussion performing groups of AHS.
While the rest of us were relishing in our Spring Break, World Guard members traveled to Dayton for their WGI World Championships from Apr. 6-10. Preceding their WGI competition, World Guard has led a successful season so far. They have attended several school invitations including their Roosevelt HS Invitational at Corona (Feb. 6), Marina HS Invitational at Huntington Beach (Feb. 20), and Downey HS Invitational (Mar. 27). They competed in their WGI San Diego Regional at Rancho Bernardo HS during Feb. 27-28 and their WGI Riverside Regional at Riverside Community College at Mar. 20-21. After their WGI World Championships, World Guard members also have upcoming WGASC Championships on Apr. 18 at Rancho Cucamonga HS. "quote about season?"
(INSERT Brief recap of their WGI championships, content of show......blah blah) Performing brilliantly at the championships, World Guard's finals score totaled a 91.50, placing them sixth overall. (not sure if this info is correct, got it from website, will check) "insert quote about score....blah blah blah."
(INSERT quotes from individual members, feelings, dedicate this whole paragraph to their feelings, no one answered yet, will get quotes)
VPR's own WGI Championships occurred after World Guard's, as members competed at Dayton on Apr. 16-18(?) VPR also led a successful season so far with their, WGI Regional at Rancho Cucamonga HS on Feb. 20-21, WGI Regional at Temecula on Mar. 20-21. At their Valencia High School Southern California percussion Alliance (SCPA) show, VPR placed second with their total score of 71.95. Junior VPR member, Daniel Zaki concluded by explaining how he thought this season "was amazing. I truly couldn't ask for more, it had its ups and downs but I definitely think we're pushing strongly to the end."
(INSERT Brief recap of their WGI championships, scores of show not posted until Sunday......blah blah). VPR members showcased their show, "Legend."
Richard Lo, junior, VPR member said that he "just love[s] everything about [the WGI competition]--the atmosphere, the chance to compete with your peers from nearby schools, [and] the chance to grow as a person." (will add more quotes, and feelings, blah, blah)
World Guard and VPR both deserve a great round of applause after their respectively successful seasons and WGI competitions behind them. With the conclusion of this event, the memories of competing in this event would always remain with these performers, as they remember standing on performance stage of the WGI competitions.
