Relay For Life Empty Relay For Life

    Relay For Life
Relay For Life, the twenty- four hour “race” where teams take turns running or walking around a track. Teams raise money before and during to help bring a cure to cancer.
Relay For Life was originally founded by Dr. Gordy Klatt in 1985. Dr. Gordy Klatt was a surgeon and decided to run and walk around a track for twenty-four hours to raise money for the American Cancer Society. From what started as a man with the dream of ending cancer, The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is now “the world’s largest movement to end the disease,” according to the American Cancer Society website. People from all over the United States, and even from a few countries, come together in their communities for one common goal: to find a cure for cancer.
Every year there is a Relay For Life event right here at our very own Santa Anita Race Track. In fact, some clubs and organizations at AHS will be participating in this year’s Relay For Life, which takes place Jun. 26-27 from 11 a.m. on Sat. to 11 a.m. on Sun. Those clubs/organizations include the Red Cross club, Leo Club, Key Club and the Apache Pow Wow. One way to help the Red Cross Club raise money would be to go to the Car Wash or Garage Sale on May 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (more information about that on http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR/RelayForLife/RFLFY10CA?sid=111614&type=fr_informational&pg=informational&fr_id=20312 ). Also, the Apachs Pow Wow, along with other Relay For Life teams, have a fundraiser from now until Jun. 30 at Subway. The locations that are participating are 160 E. Duarte Road at 2nd & Durate and 411 E. Huntington Dr. between Gateway and 5th Ave. Subway will donate 15% in honor of the different teams. All you have to do is mention a code and you can support a team! The codes are listed on the website above.
A member of the Red Cross club, sophomore Amy Leong, is “glad to take part in helping find the cure for cancer.” If you would like to participate in this wonderful event, go to the Relay For Life of Arcadia website and either make a team, or join an already existing one.
