Walking past the North Gym on May 8 from 5-8 p.m., you would have heard the incessant cheering of the Spring Show’s crowd. The performers fueling this energy were none other than our very own Colorguard and Percussion members.
With the year wrapping up, Colorguard and Percussion have been practicing long and hard to impress AHS with the Spring Show. World Guard practiced twice a week after school for four hours and constant weekend rehearsals. Freshman Aileen Ju often came to practice “thinking the worst and how much [she] didn’t want to be there. [But] as practice continue[d], it became more and more enjoyable with all the amazing and fun personalities [that] make[s everything] worth it.” As for Percussion, practices were held twice a week. But each practice was always full of energy because the instructors consistently encouraged Percussion members (need another word><) to perform their hardest, so that they wouldn’t be caught off guard at the actual performance.
World Guard performed to a mix of “White SSS” along the theme of “The Sensory Garden.” A Guard livened things up with a remix of Madonna’s “4 Minutes” (To Save the World) with the theme of “Superheroes.” Percussion stuck to the stereotypical “Asian Theme” SORRY EILEEN, PERCUSSION INFO WAS INADEQUATE
Colorguard and Percussion weren’t the only entertainers, Arroyo High School’s Colorguard and Foothill’s Drill Team also attended. Although there were other high school’s at AHS, the Spring Show wasn’t a competition but a mere, friendly showcase. This gave everyone a chance to perform, without the pressure of having to top other high schools’ competing groups.
With the Spring Show in Arcadia, Colorguard and Percussion family and friends were able to support and cheer on their favorite artists without the trouble of traveling hours. All that was necessary, was a ticket which cost a mere six bucks! To junior Varsity Percussion member, Coleen Ju, the most rewarding part of the Spring Show is “the support [given] from everyone.” After years of performing in the Spring Show, Coleen has developed the passion to “love [the] Spring Show."
All in all, the Spring Show’s audience viewed a variety of performances, ranging from the Serenity if World Guard to the upbeat presentation of Varsity Percussion. This difficult feat of pulling off Spring Show was made possible due to our Colorguard and Percussion; but more importantly each and every individual of each performing arts group. As the stress and pressure piled up, Coleen knows that “it’s the great friends you make in your program that help keep you grounded. Especially Colorguard, [since the only thing] to worry about is spinning for those few hours.”
