AHS Fashion Trends Empty AHS Fashion Trends

Post  annanaran Tue May 11, 2010 8:55 pm

Flipping through magazines can often be misleading and frustrating, while looking at all of the clothes that cost more than you could ever afford. You may think that true fashion comes from those high end stores you watch celebrities walk in and out of. However if one simply just takes a look around they can see that fashion trends are everywhere, even at AHS.

BACKPACK TAGS: During AHS’s ASB elections one can always expect to be swayed to vote for a candidate that gives them candy. However there is one other item that works as a way to advertise the candidate. Recently students who are running, hand out tags that can be easily attached to peoples backpacks. An old election time tradition is candidates passing out stickers or buttons that would help get their name out there. Now, using an item that every single student has, they created backpack tags that can tie onto the bag. Freshman ASB president, Tricia Xu shared, “When it comes to campaigning, I've realized that backpack tags are a great way to get your name out there. The reason being that everyone owns some sort of backpack or bag they can tie a tag onto. This is just another way to campaign in a cute and creative way! “

HIGH SKIRTS: The short jean miniskirts were a trend to be reckoned with. Not until recently did the miniskirt get a run for its money, when the high skirts became trendy. The high skirt not only changed the look of skirts but also brought back the old trend of high-wasted clothing. Freshman Anum Ahmad likes the fact that high skirts “make your legs look longer.” This is kind of an out with the new and in with the old trend.

UGGS: One fashion accessory that seems to never go out of style is the UGG boot. These boots vary in style from the suede or knitted boot, to the moccasin style shoe. They even come in flip flops with a touch of fur on the strap or sole. They also come in numerous colors. Freshman Kaylee Alvarez shared her opinion when she explained that “UGGS always stay relevant since they are always making new kinds to appeal to different people. For example some people like the short boot compared to the tall ones. The reason why they are popular is because there is a wide variety to choose from.”

SHORT SHORTS: As you glance around the campus of AHS, especially when it is hot, many students are wearing shorts. However these shorts are not the long Bermuda shorts that were really popular years ago, they are short shorts. The short short allows for more of the leg to be visible and also cools the body down because it has less fabric. Sophomore Megan White explained that she liked, “shorter shorts because when it’s super hot outside, long shorts stick to you, while shorter shorts keep you cool. Shorter shorts all the way!” Another sophomore Taco Cortez mentioned that she preferred “short shorts better than long Bermuda shorts because it is more comfortable and more refreshing.”

LONG SHORTS: Opposite to the girl trend of shorts, guys tend to wear longer shorts. Junior Blake Luevano mentioned that he liked “wearing them [long shorts] because they make me feel free. Also it is an easy way to keep cool during those hot days. Finally, they come in so many great designs that I can never be out of style!”

T-SHIRT: The majority of the guys at AHS wear T-Shirts. Most of these T-shirts have some sort of logo or design on them typically based on currently popular themes. Sports logos such as football and baseball are popular designs often worn by the male population.

You may think that true fashion comes from those high end stores you watch celebrities walk in and out of. However if one simply just takes a look around they can see that fashion trends are everywhere, even at AHS.

POCKET PEEKING SHORTS: As you glance around the campus of AHS, especially when it is hot, many students are wearing shorts. However these shorts are not the long Bermuda shorts that were really popular years ago, they are short shorts. A key fashion feature of these shorts is a pocket lining that peeks out from the bottom of the shorts. The pockets that hang down further than the shorts, seems to be the new style.

LENSE-LESS GLASSES: “Nice shades! Wait! Where are they?” Have you ever walked around school and wondered why some people have those huge framed glasses on that look as if they are prescription glasses, however when getting a closer look you notice that they have no lenses in them? Well stop wondering; because the answer is simple….It’s a new trend!

BLAZER: The blazer is the new up and coming style. According to Teen Vogue the blazer is simply a “classic cover-up.” Teen Vogue also mentioned that by next fall the blazer will be knocking the cardigan and trench coat out of the stores. The blazer gives people a very polished look while also providing a little warmth.

SEQUINS: A sequined dress. Hmm. Sounds like one of the many outfits I have seen little kids play dress up in. Well it’s time to dig out those dress-up clothes because sequins are back! Whether they are plastered all over a dress, or scattered in some places on a shirt, they are ready for a comeback.

BELTS: Belts have been seen everywhere from the red carpet to AHS. One of the most popular looks at the moment is the high-wasted belt. Belts are able to change your simple baggy frock into a great dress that can look like it is straight off the runway. Another hot trend is using a narrow belt and putting it through your jeans or shorts belt loops and wearing it with a shirt that is tucked in.

PLAID SHIRTS: Plaids a unisex fabric that is sweeping through AHS. This fabric is supposed to be the top fabric design for fall 2010. For the guys, a simple long sleeved button-up shirt is just right. As for the girls, they can also go for the button up shirt or also work a simple plaid dress.
