    Math Team Skeleton
Starting the New Year with a bang, AHS’ Math Team competed head-on with/in [any particular rival] last Wed at San Marino High School last Wednesday. Math Team has competed in math-related competitions [what they had already done this year]. [if first time this year, something about captain or advisor’s feelings of new team]. The competition was a [style] encompassing subjects like [geometry, Alg2]. Arcadia High School’s Math Team ended up [position] losing/beating [who at what round].
[how competition works-test, buzzer etc] [competitor comment maybe]
[quote from member-what were they expecting, what they hope for]
From here, the AHS Math Team is [where they place, what they’ve won]
[quote from member/advisor of what they think of results and what they think of the team]
    win:
having defeated [who] Math Team has [won something/gained a position] [or have climbed a ladder in what tournament]
    lose:
having their run cut of by [who] Math team hopes for a win at [next competition or tournament]

Math Team Competition Empty Math Team Skeleton FILLED

    Math Team Skeleton Filled

Starting the New Year with a bang, AHS’s Math Team competed head-on against other schools in the second Bay Math League meet this year on Jan. 13 at San Marino High School. Math Team has already placed first in the last Bay Math League meet and hopes to hold their lead.
Math team consists of people who show great interest and skill in math. After passing a tryout test, they dedicate themselves to one and a half hour meetings, where the team prepares for future meets and practice competition level problems. Pallavi Bugga, one of Math Team’s co-captains enjoys “being on a team where everyone show s a strong interest for math. Our team this year has indeed proven to be a capable one. I believe it’s the passion, interest, and camaraderie that make it so strong.”
The competition is scored based on the individual scores of those in the primary group (Team A) and each team’s score in the team round. Each round of testing revolves around one of five topics. The ninth grade level subject is quadrilaterals, polynomials for tenth grade, logarithms for eleventh, tangent lines and derivatives for twelfth, and an extracurricular research subject cyclic quadrilaterals. During the team round, each team compiles their knowledge into one test, that when added to the score of Team A’s makes the school’s final score. “There are many awesome people on the team,” commented Hank Lin, a sophomore in Team A. “ We’re like thirty-two peas in a pod.”
Despite placing third in this meet with 172 points, falling short of San Marino by twelve points, AHS’ Math Team remains first in the league overall by only three points. “I think this is a good lesson for us to practice more and increase our efforts,” stated co-captain Sam Wang. The league is now a close, neck-to-neck race between Arcadia, Peninsula, and San Marino High School. However, AHS’ Math Team’s advisor Ms. King remains “very optimistic of winning the whole competition.” The next Bay Math League meet will be Mar. 17 at West High School.
