One of the most astonishing members of the music and dance teams at AHS is the one and only— Macie de Castro. As president of New Spirit and a senior juggling AP classes, it’s a wonder how she’s even able to sleep! Junior Megan Truong knows that no matter how many hours of sleep Macie gets, she will always be “very kind, organized, caring, [and of course] funny”. Being prepared and all, senior Lisa Liu noted that “Macie is always on task doing what’s best for us by organizing her highest priorities to make [New Spirit] look good.”

These events could have never happened if it wasn’t for Macie, who has to schedule them and make sure that the girls are on their best behaviors. Of course, Macie is helped by her fellow vice president, senior Hana Rudolph. Macie feels that Hana is always there whenever she feels overwhelmed and needs to take the load off.
One person that really appreciates Macie is New Spirit advisor, Mr. Rolland Maxson. Whenever he is busy with the other performing arts groups such as Chanteurs, Macie steps in and helps teach the girls music. Macie has had Mr. Maxson since freshman year, so she gotten close to him and sees him as her grandpa.
Even though it seems that Macie has a lot on her plate, she knows that it is all worth it. Being in New Sprit, Macie has met some great friends and some have even become her best buddies. Even through all the up’s and down’s, Macie has “learned to love [them] with all [her] heart, through all of [their] trials”. Each year there is a new batch of girls and they become sister through everything they’ve been through, together. When asked about New Spirit, Macie will always say “It gets hard sometimes, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world!”
