Quiz Bowl is on a Roll
AHS Quiz Bowl is back at it again – jumping into the new semester with more wins at UC Irvine’s Baby Anteater XI on Saturday, Jan. 30. This tournament is a novice tournament, where only members who have been in Quiz Bowl for two years or less are permitted to participate. One team came all the way from Arizona to compete. AHSQuiz Bowl sent three teams, fifteen members in total.
Both B Team and C Team remained undefeated through noon, while A team narrowly lost to University A. All three AHS teams qualified for the top brackets. Scores after lunch were disregarded, so all teams in the top brackets started anew with no losses. At the end of the day, C Team won 6th place, while B Team secured 5th.
Arcadia A and University A were tied for first, with one loss each. The tie-break match between Arcadia A and University A proved to be an exciting showdown. Arcadia had lost to University A twice that day (the first one being before lunch, and therefore, disregarded), but this was the match that mattered. Their scores were tied because University A lost to La Jolla. The auditorium was full of anticipation and the pressure was on. After twenty questions, the score stood at 385-275, with AHS leading by 110 points and winning the tournament.
In individual results, senior Alex Hu from A Team won third place, while sophomore Andrew Wang placed 14th, under the pseudonym Mr. White.
