LEt the Bass Kick Empty LEt the Bass Kick

Have you seen the posters? It’s that time of the year: Orchesis Dance Company (ODC) is once again about to host their annual show, this year titled, “Let the Bass Kick.” Named after the opening song, the show will feature the 25 members of ODC in 22 dance pieces, two hours of amazing choreography and skills. The show is running now, so if you haven’t bought a ticket yet, get to it! Performances are being held from Apr. 28 to May 1.
From hip-hop to tap to lyrical, modern, Chinese and hula dancing, ODC’s show this year is bound to be absolutely stunning. “It’ll you kick you off your chair!” exclaimed President and senior member Kristin Kimura. After all, with so many genres and styles of dancing, there’s something for everyone. “There’s no way anyone who came wouldn’t love it,” agreed ODC Director Ms. Liza Tedford. The show will feature choreography created in bulk by the ODC students themselves; after all, ODC was created as a student-based choreography class. Accordingly, half the show was choreographed by the juniors and seniors of ODC. Guest and assistant directors also helped to polish the choreography and refine movement, such as the director of Rhetorical Dance Company, the director of Lineage Dance Company, a certain Disney Choreographer, and Jia Huang, who has starred on the popular TV show, “America’s Best Dance Crew.”
This is a show that has been created and perfected throughout the span of the entire school year thus far, and Ms. Tedford will be the first to say how much time and effort the group has put in. “They work really well together,” she proudly stated, “with a clear focus on becoming strong artists and dancers. “ They have diligently persevered through hours of practice throughout the year—the ODC commitment is extraordinary, and its members amazing. Which probably makes this show so exciting to its members: “It’s exciting to see the whole year’s work finally pay off,” was junior Tyler Reeves’ sentiment. “It’ll be a really great show; so much hard work and effort!” agreed Dance Captain and senior Katreina Layfield. Ms. Tedford said of the group that they were real “go-getters from the beginning”; their model from the start was to go the distance, and since have been working really hard to create an ODC 2009-2010 that may continue to surpass previous years.
In the words of Katreina and Kristin, it’s bound to be a “kick-bass show”!
