    Pep Band Empty Pep Band

Post  katherinebay Mon Nov 09, 2009 6:29 pm

“We dance, we jam, we play great music, we slap smiles on people's faces, and we have a lot of fun doing it,” said sophomore Jenny Earnest. They have sprit, spunk, and on top of all that, they play extremely catchy songs. Who are they? They are the almighty Pep Band, here to bring joy to all Football games and school assemblies

This enormously spirited musical group is an elite part of the AHS Marching Band. Consisting of sophomores, juniors, and seniors, Pep Band takes marching and concert band to the next level. From pumping up the beat at school assemblies, to playing dramatic and exhilarating music at football games, to even participating at local community events, Pep Band is seen nearly everywhere to spread glee through music. Just last year, the pep band played at the opening of the Promenade at the Santa Anita mall. According to junior Kimberlie Liang, “this group is compromised of the best musicians AHS has to offer [because] many of [them] have interacted with band and music since elementary school and really grew up with Arcadia’s music program.”

Many songs that the Pep Band play include “Stacy's Mom”, “Jungle Boogie”, “Pretty Fly For a White Guy”, “Alma Mater”, "The Impression That I Get,” “Go Big Red.,” and “Fight Song.” Of course, these songs are merely viewed as background music to the climactic point of football games. They also add a sense of accomplishment certain songs are played after a win is made. Pep Band is the base of sheer enjoyment when watching a school football game because they add enthusiasm as well as a beat for the Pep Squad members to dance and cheer along to. The liveliness of Pep Band puts the action emitted from the football field to a whole new level filled with adrenaline rushes because the spectators have no choice but to just boogie to the music while cheering on the Apaches.

Typically, they play a scale called a lip slur as well as B flat going down in half steps to warm up for such performances, but nothing too major to restrain them from getting tired. In comparison to marching band, Pep Band performances are deemed as a piece of cake, considering that all of the members have already built up more than enough endurance to play for a couple of hours. How they have so much peppiness is “a secret,” according to Jenny but one thing that is for sure is that they all share the love for playing music. Kimberlie said, “The people change every year when the seniors graduate, and different people step up. Although the people change, our spirit remains the same from every year.”

[Mall in caps?] According to junior Kimberlie Liang, “this group is compromised of the best musicians AHS has to offer [because] many of [them] have interacted with band and music since elementary school and really grew up with Arcadia’s music program.” [that's why they're so good? because they've been doing it for forever....?]

ahaha-- gotta go to school. ill copy edit the rest later.

The Many songs that the Pep Band play include “Stacy's Mom”, [comma goes inside end quotation mark!!!]“Jungle Boogie”, “Pretty Fly For a White Guy”, “Alma Mater”, "The Impression That I Get,” “Go Big Red.[why the period?],” and “Fight Song.” Of course, these songs tunes are merely viewed [awk-- not to mention you don't view background music.] as background music to the climactic point of football games. They also add a sense of accomplishment to who? certain songs [what is this random "certain songs"? what is its function in the sentence-- its floating around.]are played after a win is made. Pep Band is the base [awk word choice] of sheer enjoyment when watching a school football game because they add enthusiasm as well as a beat for the Pep Squad members to dance and cheer along to. The liveliness of Pep Band puts the action emitted from the football field to a whole new level filled with adrenaline rushes because the spectators have no choice but to just boogie [I thought you said it was background music.... and boogie is awk] to the music while cheering on the Apaches. What happened to assemblies? if you bring two things up in an introduction and talk about one in more depth, you have to talk about the other in more depth too.

[insert topic sentence here.]Typically, they [never start a new paragraph with a pronoun.] play a scale called a lip slur as well as B flat going down in half steps [too many technical words for such a general and probably musically illiterate audience.] to warm up for such performances, but nothing too major to restrain [do you know what restrain means?] them from getting tired. In comparison to marching band, Pep Band performances are deemed as a piece of cake [careful not to diss one group in the praise of another.], considering that all of the members have already built up more than enough endurance to play for a couple of hours despite the fact that Pep Band members have to have the endurance level to last an entire two-three hour game. How they have so much peppiness is “a secret,” according to Jenny, but one thing that is for sure is that they all share the love for playing music. [so what? a lot of people at Arcadia high love music. try to come up with something more interesting and admirable.] Kimberlie said, “The people change every year when the seniors graduate, and different people step up. Although the people change, our spirit remains the same from every year.” elaborate on this a bit more. also, i noticed that your quotes are either introduced by "According to" or "said"-- vary it up more.]

overall its a nice and technically well-written article, but you can do more with it: spice it up with some interesting info, like an anecdote or a weird way of identifying a pep band member, etc.

According to junior Kimberlie Liang, “this group is compromised of the best musicians AHS has to offer [because] many of [them] have interacted with band and music since elementary school and really grew up with Arcadia’s music program,” which proves that their experience has led each musician to success.

The many songs that the Pep Band play include “Stacy's Mom,” “Jungle Boogie,” “Pretty Fly For a White Guy,” “Alma Mater,” "The Impression That I Get,” “Go Big Red,” and “Fight Song.” Of course, these tunes are merely listened to as background music to the climactic point of football games. When a football player scores a winning touchdown, the songs Pep Band instantly plays add a sense of accomplishment. Pep Band is the heart of sheer enjoyment when watching a school football game because they add enthusiasm as well as a beat for the Pep Squad members to dance and cheer along to. The liveliness of Pep Band puts the action emitted from the football field to a whole new level filled with adrenaline rushes because the spectators have no choice but to just wallow in the liveliness of the music while cheering on the Apaches. When at assemblies, the average AHS student walks through the doors of the North Gym, for example, and is welcomed by Pep Band’s friendliness and their catchy music. From entering to leaving an assembly, the Pep Band is there for entertainment. The ever-so-original “Alma Mater” is of course played at each assembly, which gives the school a feel of school spirit.

The Pep Band truly embodies the AHS spirit. Typically, they play a scale called a lip slur to warm up for such performances, but nothing too major to keep them from getting tired. In comparison to marching band, Pep Band performances are viewed as a piece of cake according to the Pep Band members, despite the fact that they have to have the endurance level to last an entire two to three hour game. How they have so much peppiness is “a secret,” according to Jenny, but one thing for sure is that they all have passion for adding school spirit to the average musically-challenged person. When asked how Pep Band holds such a high reputation, Kimberlie responded with “The people change every year when the seniors graduate, and different people step up. Although the people change, our spirit remains the same from every year.”
