Hope Can Cure Cancer is an on-campus club that provides hope and education in the fight against cancer. Hope Can Cure Cancer is a thriving, popular club that focuses on hastening the search for a cure for cancer. The club partakes in many events throughout the year associated with supporting cancer prevention, awareness, and support.

Hope Can Cure Cancer, known as HCCC, participates in many events that help raise funds for cancer research. Recently the club participated in the annual Walk for Hope. Walk for Hope is a 5k walk around Duarte’s cancer hospital and research center, City of Hope. Club co-president senior, Elaine Hsiang explained that the clubs largest event that they take part in “is the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, which takes place in late June.” Elaine described the event by sharing that it is a “two-day sleepover event at the Santa Anita Racetrack where each team that participates sets up their own booths to raise money for the cause.” They also raise money for cancer patients by putting on a Comedy Show at AHS. The club also collects the pink Yoplait lids to help support Breast Cancer. The more lids that are collected the more money that is given to Breast Cancer research.

Elaine wanted to stress that HCCC “focuses on raising funds for cancer research, but we [HCCC] also make it our [their] goal to meet cancer patients directly and help them through their hardest times.” During the month of November, HCCC is making Thanksgiving cards that members in the club will design for patients at the Methodist Hospital. Elaine also mentioned that around Christmas time the club goes caroling at the Methodist Hospital to entertain the patients.
