Many students now may be moping over their report cards and wearing into the new semester will a healthy period of slaking. This is the case, however, for the Speech and Debate Team breaking into the second semester in their most recent competition. The competition was held here at AHS where our team competed with other schools in the Southern California Debate League.
With 94 members with a dedication and drive for their topics, Speech and Debate put up “one of [their] best showings” [Ray Chao]. “The best part of speech and debate is the camaraderie, especially since we are all so crazy!” commented officer Ray Chao.
There were two preliminary rounds, semifinals, and then finals. Eighteen schools proceed to the semifinals and seven to the finals. After rounds of speech, impromptus, and interviews, AHS’ Speech and Debate placed second in the match, beaten by [first school, scores]. [quote, maybe from advisor or competitor]. [what awards, maybe a quote from someone who won an award]. Speech and Debate’s main goal how is to make as many people as possible into State Qualifications. “We’ve had a really strong season thus far, and I can’t wait to see how we do at Qualifications!” stated officer Janna Singer-Baefsky.

Many students now may be moping over their report cards and wearing into the new semester with a healthy period of slaking. This is not the case, however, for the Speech and Debate Team breaking into the second semester in their most recent competition. The competition was held here at AHS where our team competed with other schools in the Southern California Debate League.
With 94 dedicated members who are motivated to their topics, Speech and Debate put up “one of [their] best showings” [Ray Chao]. “The best part of speech and debate is the camaraderie, especially since we are all so crazy!” commented officer Ray Chao.
There were two preliminary rounds, semifinals, and then finals. Eighteen students proceed to the semifinals and seven to the finals. After rounds of speech, impromptus, and interviews, AHS’ Speech and Debate placed second overall and an impressive amount of individual trophies. “I’m so proud and impressed by what the team as a whole has done,” stated officer and finalist Janna Singer-Baefsky. Speech and Debate’s main goal now is to make as many people as possible into State Qualifications. “We’ve had a really strong season thus far, and I can’t wait to see how we do at Qualifications!” [Janna Singer-Baefsky].
